How to Add Tips

Suppliers in tipping-based markets can enable and use the gratuity feature to boost customer satisfaction and reward service.

Gratuity is a key feature in markets like the USA, where tipping is customary. Customers can conveniently add a tip to their purchase using a point of sale terminal, rewarding the service received.

Tips can be added to both cash and card transactions.

To use this feature for card transactions, terminals must be integrated with the Adyen payment gateway.


Enable Gratuity at Location

  1. In your Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Locations.

  2. Select your location or create a new one.

    Make sure to create the location under the desired destination.
    ​


  3. Scroll down the form or simply search for 'Allow Gratuity'.

  4. Check the 'Allow Gratuity' box to enable the feature.

  5. Press the Update Location button to save your changes.


Gratuity Flow

Before completing a payment, customers can use the card reader device to enter a tip amount.

To use this feature for card transactions, terminals must be integrated with the Adyen payment gateway.

  1. In the Ventrata terminal app, make a new booking.

  2. On the Payment Method page, press the Gratuity button.

  3. Select

    • one of the preset tips, or

    • select Custom gratuity (0%) and use the built-in keyboard to enter a custom amount.

  4. Press the Apply button at the bottom of the dialog window.

  5. You have the option to split the payment into multiple parts. Press the Split payment button.

  6. Select

    • one of the preset number of splits, or

    • enter a custom split.

  7. Press the Apply button at the bottom of the dialog window.

  8. Select cash or card payment method.

  9. Press the Pay now button.

  10. A summary of the transaction is displayed at the top of page.

    If a payment is split, each payment is recorded at the top of the screen as well as on the printed transaction receipt.


  11. Press the Pay now button.

  12. Once the payment is successfully processed, a success page appears onscreen.

  13. A booking is created in the backoffice along with a record of the added tip (gratuity) and each payment method used for each split portion, if selected.
