How to Configure the Elo M51 Handheld POS

Follow the steps to complete the initial setup of your Elo M51 device.

This article is a manual on how to assemble and configure the Elo M51 handheld POS device.

The Elo M51 is a enterprise-grade mobile computer built for high-performance scanning and data capture. When used with the Ventrata terminal app, the M51 functions as a high-speed scanner, ensuring seamless ticket validation and transaction processing.

Prerequisites:

  • Before setting up the M51, reach out to Ventrata Technical Support or your Customer Success Representative, who will:

    • register your Elo device on EloView

    • push the appropriate version of the Ventrata terminal app in EloView

    • enable the scan handle on EloView

  • Make sure that the location where the device will be used has internet access.

Install Scan Handle

The scan handle is a M51 accessory that combines the capabilities of a docking station and a gun-style handle.

Cleat, Scan Handle & Elo M51 Mobile Computer

  1. Attach the cleat to the lower back part of the M51, aligning the screw with the larger hole and the fixing pin with the smaller hole.

  2. Position the scan handle onto the back of the M51, ensuring the screw fits into the top hole on the device.

  3. Tighten the thumb screw securely.

Enroll Device with EloView

  1. Press the power button to turn on the device.

  2. When device is on, tap anywhere on the screen.

  3. Connect to WiFi.

  4. When connected, the device may perform multiple updates.

  5. Select Enroll with EloView.

  6. Confirm by pressing the OK button.

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Ignore the EloView sign-up screen. The device will automatically sign in.


  8. Additional updates may be performed, including the installation of the Ventrata terminal app.

Enable Infra Scanner for the Ventrata App

  1. Select the Elo ScanConfig app.

  2. Press the cog icon next to Barcode Settings.

  3. Press the plus '+' icon to create a new scan profile.

  4. Enter a name for the profile.

  5. Then, press the Save button.

  6. Select the newly created Ventrata profile in the list of Scan Profiles.

  7. If the profile is disabled, toggle it on to enable it.

  8. Select Output Settings.

  9. Make sure Intent is enabled.

  10. Select the individual options and configure the following settings:

    • Intent Actions: com.oem.zbcr.BCRDATA

    • App Package Name: com.ventrata.app

    • Intent Category: android.intent.category.DEFAULT

    • Intent Delivery: Broadcast Intent

  11. Use the back arrow to return to the Scan Profile settings.

  12. Select Apply to Apps.

  13. Press the toggle button to apply the scan profile to all apps.

    Verify that the scan profile was also applied to the Ventrata app by searching for it in the list of apps and ensuring the toggle is enabled.


  14. Use the back button at the top of the settings app or the back button on the bottom navigation bar (if enabled) to navigate back to the scan page.

Create Terminal

To use the Elo M51 device, a terminal entry must be created in the Ventrata dashboard. The M51 terminal can function as both an mPOS device and a scan-only device.

You will need the serial number to create the terminal entry. The M51's serial number is located on the back of the device, beneath the battery.

When creating a scan-only terminal, make sure the device is added to the 'Scan Terminals' field in the Location settings.
