How to Set Wholesale Limits

Set a fixed wholesale limit so you can keep dynamic pricing for direct retail, while customers pay any remaining balance.

Wholesale limits allow you to work with resellers who do not integrate dynamic pricing — typically city passes — without losing money. These resellers usually pay a fixed low wholesale rate, regardless of your current retail/fare pricing.

Who is this for

  • Clients using fares

  • Clients working with resellers that do not support dynamic pricing

Configure Reseller

First, configure the reseller to use a commission scheme (percentage or absolute) and enable a wholesale limit.

  1. In your Ventrata dashboard, go to Resellers > Resellers.

    Resellers - Resellers

  2. Select the reseller.

  3. Press the Edit Details button.

    Edit Details

  4. In the Scheme section, check the 'Commission' checkbox.

  5. Check the 'Allow Wholesale Limit' checkbox.

  6. If using a percentage commission, check the 'Percentage' box and set a 'Default Percentage' value.

Set a Wholesale Limit

Define a wholesale limit per product — the maximum amount the reseller will pay.

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Products > Products.

    Products

  2. Select the product that uses fares.

  3. On the COMMISSION tab, select the reseller as a rate modifier and confirm the commission assigned is to them.

  4. Switch to the WHOLESALE tab and enter the wholesale limit.

    🧮 CALCULATE WHOLESALE VALUE

    If commission is percentage:

[retail price] - [commission percentage] * [retail price]

    If commission is absolute:

    [retail price] - [commission value]

    📒 NOTE

Setting a wholesale limit on a reseller with a commission scheme enforces a cap — the reseller will never pay more than that amount. The customer pays any different at the attraction.

  5. Press the SAVE CHANGES button.

Adjust for Price Difference

In this example, the 'Sunset' tour group is more expensive. The reseller still pays only up to the wholesale limit — so the customer pays the difference.

  1. On the same product, switch to the Retail tab and select the 'Sunset' tour group rate modifier.

  2. Increase the retail price accordingly.

  3. Press the SAVE CHANGES button.

Wholesale Limits in Practice

Bookings within the limit

A customer books a non-Sunset fare — covered entirely by the reseller voucher.

Retail

€44.00

Paid by Voucher

€44.00

Receivable

€17.60

Bookings exceeding the limit

A customer books a Sunset fare — €10 more expensive. Customer pays the difference.

Retail

€54.00

Paid by Voucher

€44.00

Paid by Cash

€10.00

Receivable

€17.60

The receivable remains the same (€17.60) in both cases — the reseller always pays the same amount. Any price difference is collected from the customer.
