Seasonal sales taxes create more work for businesses. Every time a sales tax rate changes, point-of-sale systems must be updated to charge the right rate, and imposing a seasonal sales tax on some transactions but not others compounds the complexity.

Ventrata offers the 'Seasonal tax rate' functionality, which can help reduce the burden of compliance. Like seasons, tax rates can be applied to specific periods as required by local legislation.

Create Seasonal Tax Rate

  1. In your Ventrata dashboard, go to Products > Tax Rates.

  2. Select a tax rate with seasonal application or create a new one.

    πŸ“— TIP

To learn how to create a new tax rate, read our article on How to Use Tax Rates.

  3. Select a date range based on travel date or booking date.

  4. Press the Update Tax Rate button, or Create Tax Rate if it is a new rate.

πŸ“˜ EXAMPLE

Prerequisites:

  • Product

    • The product is NOT a package

    • Pricing is separate for each unit (not per-booking)

  • Tax Rate

    • Tax rate season is 1st April - 30th September

    • Season is based on the travel date

    • Tax is mandatory (the 'Optional' box is not checked)

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Products > Products.

  2. Select a product with the seasonal tax rate.

  3. Press the pen and paper icon of each unit to add the appropriate tax rate.

  4. In the 'Tax Rate' field, select the appropriate seasonal tax rates.

  5. Press the Update Unit button.

  6. Open the Ventrata terminal app.

  7. Select New Booking (or Product / Retail Purchase on a tablet screen).

  8. Select the product with seasonal tax rates.

  9. Select a travel date within the tax rate season.

  10. Notice how the price changes.

    πŸ“’ NOTE

If a date within the tax season is selected, a mandatory tax rate is automatically applied to the total. The price without tax is shown on the date and time pickers.

  11. Select a date outside the tax season.

    πŸ“’ NOTE

If no other seasonal tax rate is applied to the product, the total price of the product remains the same as the retail price.
