Ventrata supports the TSP650 and TSP100 series of Star Micronics thermal receipt printers, both designed for POS applications. The TSP650 series caters to operators seeking adaptability, while the TSP100 series is ideal for end users thanks to ease of use.
STAR TSP650 Series
Printer to Ventrata Dashboard via USB
When processing sales from the backoffice using a browser, you can connect a printer to your computer to print receipts. To ensure proper functionality, the printer must be configured to communicate with the backoffice, which requires specific software. Follow the steps below to correctly configure your printer.
Prerequisites:
Your computer runs a Windows 10 or later version.
The printer is connected to a free USB port on your computer.
Go to zadig.akeo.ie.
Download the latest version of the software.
Open the installation file.
Go to Options > List All Devices.
Select the name of the printer connected to your computer.
Make sure that 'WinUSB' is selected in the green driver box after the green arrow.
Then, press the Replace Driver button.
Wait until the driver is replaced and a success message appears onscreen.
Open Chrome browser.
Paste the following:
chrome://flags
in the address bar.Search for 'Experimental Web Platform' features.
Enable this option if it is disabled.
Press the Relaunch button to restart the browser.
Test that your printer prints out tickets.
Printer to Tablet over USB
Star TSP650 printers are pre-configured with a dip switch factory setting that disables the ESC/POS mode, a featured required to configure the printer with Ventrata. To enable ESC/POS mode, adjust the appropriate dip switch to the OFF position.
Switch to ESC/POS Mode
Prerequisites:
The printer is turned off.
Prepare a pen or flat-blade screwdriver.
Both DIP switches are in factory setting.
Factory setting on the Star printer is set to Star mode. To switch to ESC/POS mode, the No.1 switch must be in the OFF position.

Remove the screw from the DIP switch blind (a small metal plate that covers the DIP switch).
Take off the DIP switch blind.
Use a pen or flat-blade screwdriver to set switch No.1 on DIP-SW1 to OFF.
Replace the DIP switch blind. Then secure it with a screw.
Settings take effect when the printer is turned on.
Create Config
The Star TSP650 can be connected to POS systems using a USB cable. This connection must be specified in the printer config.
In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Configs.
Press the + New Config button.
Select 'Printer' from the list.
Enter a name for the printer config.

It is recommended to enter a descriptive name which includes the printer brand and connection type.
Select 'ESC/POS' printer type.
Select the 'USB' connection type.
Select the correct paper width according to the printer's specifications.
Press the Create Config button.
Add the config to a terminal entry, which represents the device the printer is connected to.
STAR TSP100 Series
The Star TSP100 can be connected to POS systems using a USB cable. This connection must be specified in the printer config.
STAR USB Raster over USB
This method, used by Star Micronics printers, involves transmitting raster graphics data over a USB connection. The TSP100 series printers are specifically designed for raster data printing. To accommodate this feature, a different config is required for printers in the TSP100 series.
Create Config
In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Configs.
Press the + New Config button.
Select 'Printer' from the list.
Enter a name for the printer config.

Add Printer Config to Terminal
Assign the newly created config to a terminal within the Ventrata dashboard.
In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Terminals.
Select an existing terminal or create a new one.
Scroll down the terminal form and select the BOCA template printer config you created above.
Press the Update Terminal button.
