How to Activate a Device in Terminal Mode

The Ventrata app enables you to sell and collect tickets for your products on select hardware devices.

By activating the terminal it is linked to, your Ventrata account synchronises your activities from the terminal with the Ventrata Dashboard.When the Ventrata mobile app is first installed on a phone or payment terminal, you must perform the device activation process. Once activated, new versions of the app will activate the device automatically.

📒 NOTE

Regular updates are applied automatically, but full reinstallation of the app requires manual intervention if functionality issues occur.

If the terminal replaces an older device, ensure it is registered to your account. Coordination with an admin may be required to add the terminal through the back office.


Prerequisites:

  • A location for is created in the Ventrata dashboard.

  • Configs of peripheral devices, such as printers or payment terminals, are created in the Ventrata dashboard.

  • Sellers are created in terminal's destination.

Create New Terminal

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Terminals in the navigation bar.

  2. If you use Destinations, select the destination for which you want to add the new terminal.

  3. Press the + New Terminal button.

  4. Enter terminal 'Name'.

  5. Enter 'Serial Number' if available.

    📗 TIP

    If you are using a terminal device, you can find the Serial Number on the back of the device (copy the number following S/N). If you are using a phone, go to Settings > About phone for Android / System Settings > General > About for iOS.


  6. Select 'Gateway'.

    Ensure that the gateway is activated in your Ventrata dashboard. For more information, visit How to Create Gateways.


  7. Select the configs of all peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, routers, etc. connected to the terminal.

  8. Select the Terminals mode.

  9. Press the Create Terminal button.

Activate Terminal

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Terminals in the dashboard.

  2. Select your terminal and keep the Update Terminal window open on your screen.

  3. Open the Ventrata app on the terminal.

  4. On the Activation page of the app, type the activation code displayed at the top of the terminal details.

  5. Then, back in your browser, go to Ticket Terminals > Sellers.

  6. Select your seller and keep the Update Seller window open on your screen.

  7. On the Login page of the app, type the Pin code from the seller details.

The terminal is activated and the seller is logged in. In case the terminal activation fails after completing the steps, refer to the troubleshooting section below for guidance.


Troubleshooting Terminal Activation Failures

If you encounter an 'Activation failed' error while setting up your terminal, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify the terminal registration in the Ventrata dashboard

    • Confirm that the terminal has been properly added to your dashboard.

    • Check that all required fields are completed in the terminal setup.

    • Ensure the terminal is assigned to the correct destination (if you use them) and location.

  2. Check the serial number and activation requirements

    • Verify that the serial number entered matches the device exactly.

    • Confirm whether the terminal is already registered with the device provider as necessary.

    • Ensure you have the correct activation code for the specific terminal.

  3. Reattempt Activation

    • Close and reopen the Ventrata app.

    • Re-enter the activation code carefully.

    • Ensure you have a stable internet connection during activation.
