How to Set up Epson Printers

Configure and connect your Epson printer with Ventrata.

Epson printers are designed to support a variety of interfaces, including USB, Ethernet, Serial, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to integrate with various POS systems. Before first use, make sure the printer is connected to a power source, the printer has a paper roll and that it is turned on.

Printer Configuration

When ready, make sure the printer is correctly configured based on the connection type and the device it will be paired with.

Printer to Ventrata Dashboard via USB

When processing sales from the backoffice using a browser, you can connect a printer to your computer to print receipts. To ensure proper functionality, the printer must be configured to communicate with the backoffice, which requires specific software. Follow the steps below to correctly configure your printer.

Prerequisites:

  • Your computer runs a Windows 10 or later version.

  • The printer is connected to the computer using a USB cable on which the driver is installed.

  • Make sure you are using Chrome as your browser.

  1. Download the latest version of the software.

  2. Open the installation file.

  3. Go to Options > List All Devices.

  4. Select the name of the printer connected to your computer.

  5. Make sure that 'WinUSB' is selected in the driver box after the green arrow.

  6. Then, press the Replace Driver button.

  7. Wait until the driver is replaced and a success message appears onscreen.

  8. Open Chrome browser.

  9. Paste the following: chrome://flags in the address bar.

  10. Search for 'Experimental Web Platform features'.

  11. Enable this option if it is disabled.

  12. Press the Relaunch button to restart the browser.

  13. Test that your printer prints out tickets.


Printer to Tablet over USB

Epson printers can be connected to POS systems or self-service kiosks using a USB cable. This connection must be specified in the printer config.

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Configs.

  2. Press the + New Config button.

  3. Select 'Printer' from the list.

  4. Enter a name for the printer config.

    It is recommended to enter a descriptive name which includes the printer brand and connection type.


  5. Select 'ESC/POS' printer type.

  6. Select the 'USB' connection type.

  7. Select the correct paper width according to the printer's specifications.

  8. Press the Create Config button.

  9. Add the config to a terminal entry, which represents the device the printer is connected to.


Printer on iOS via Local Network

Certain Epson printer models can connect to iOS devices over a local network, both using an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.

Prerequisites:

  • The printer is connected to the local network using an Ethernet cable via its LAN (preferred) port or via Wi-Fi.

  • The iOS device is connected via Wi-Fi to the same local network as the printer.

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Configs.

  2. Press the + New Config button.

  3. Select 'Printer' from the list.

  4. Enter a name for the printer config.

    It is recommended to enter a descriptive name which includes the printer brand and connection type.


  5. Select 'Epson' printer type.

  6. Select the 'LAN' connection type.

    This connection type applies to both Ethernet and Wi-Fi networks.


  7. Enter the IP address.


    πŸ“’ NOTE

    The IP address must be in the following format: [ip_address]./[printer_model_number]. The printer must be connected to the same network as the iOS device.


  8. Select the correct paper width according to the printer's specifications.

  9. Press the Create Config button.

  10. Add the config to a terminal entry, which represents the device the printer is connected to.


Add Printer Config to Terminal

Assign the newly created config to a terminal within the Ventrata dashboard.

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Terminals.

  2. Select an existing terminal or create a new one.

  3. Scroll down the terminal form and select the BOCA template printer config you created above.

  4. Press the Update Terminal button.
