How to Set up the Castles S1U2

Learn how to set up and configure the Castles S1U2 payment terminal.

This article is a manual to set up and configure the Castles S1U2 payment terminal.

The Castles S1U2 device is an unattended Android-based payment terminal with a built-in front-facing camera and barcode scanner.

The Castles S1U2 can be used in two modes:

  • Payment Terminal Only - integrated with self-service kiosks in unattended mode (primary use).

  • POS Terminal - used to make sales and accept payment on the device.


Set up the Device with Adyen

Prerequisites:

  • Before you begin the setup and configuration process, make sure the device is boarded and assigned to a store in your Adyen Customer Area.

  • Make sure the location where the device will be used has internet access.


    📗 TIP

    You can connect the device via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or a 4G network.


  • The device is plugged into a power outlet.

  • If the device is used as a POS terminal, the Ventrata terminal app must be pushed to the device.

  1. Turn on the device.

  2. Select the device language.

  3. For Wi-Fi connection, on the Setup Wi-Fi page press the + button to add a Wi-Fi connection.

  4. Toggle 'Use Wi-Fi' on.

  5. Select and connect to your Wi-Fi network.

    The device may perform multiple updates. You may need to enter the Adyen password to continue. Contact your Customer Success Representative to obtain the password.

  6. When ready, the Ventrata terminal app should install automatically.


    📒 NOTE

    Payment Terminal Only

    If the device is used as a payment terminal only and the Ventrata terminal app is present on the device, it must be uninstalled. Please contact your Customer Success Representative for assistance.

    POS Terminal

    If the Ventrata terminal app does not install automatically, contact your Customer Success Representative and provide the device's serial number so the app can be pushed to the device.

    You can find the Serial Number on the back of the device (copy the number following S/N).

Payment Terminal Only

Set up the S1U2 to be integrated with self-service kiosks in unattended mode and only accept payments.

📒 NOTE

For unattended (payment-only) use, the Ventrata terminal app should not be pushed to the device. If it is present on the device, contact your Customer Success Representative.

Configure Device in Adyen

  1. Log into your Adyen Customer Area.

  2. Go to Terminals.

  3. Locate your S1U2 device in the list of terminals.

  4. On the device detail, go to Customization.

  5. Scroll down to the Kiosk mode section and set Hide navigation bar to 'Enabled'.

    Press the pen icon next to each option to edit.

  6. In the Home screen section, set the following:

    • Settings menu - Hide

    • Transaction menu - Hide

  7. Press Save at the bottom of the screen.

Create Adyen Config in Ventrata

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Configs.

  2. In the action bar, press the + New Config button.

  3. Select ‘Adyen’ from the list.

  4. Enter a name for the config.

    📗 TIP

    Use a clear, descriptive name by combining details like brand, device model and device type, for example, 'Adyen S1U2'.


  5. Enter the device’s IP address in the ‘Local Address’ field.

    Enter the IP address in the following format: http://[ip_address](for example, 192.168.1.1). This is only an example, please enter the actual IP address assigned to the network your device is connected to.


    📒 NOTE

    If your Adyen device is used as a card reader connected to a POS terminal, make sure that both devices are connected to the same network.


  6. Enter the device's POI ID, or the device name.

    📗 TIP

    The device name consists of the device model and serial number, separated by a hyphen. For example, the POI ID for a S1U2 with the serial number XXXXXXXX would be S1U2-XXXXXXXX, with the Xs replaced by the actual numbers.


  7. Press the Create Config button.

  8. If the device is connected to a POS terminal or kiosk, assign this config to the corresponding terminal or kiosk.

Set up the S1U2 as a device with which you can make sales as well as accept payment.

📒 NOTE

If the Ventrata terminal app is not pushed to the device, contact your Customer Success Representative and provide the device's serial number to have it pushed.

Configure Device in Adyen

  1. Log into your Adyen Customer Area.

  2. Go to Terminals.

  3. Locate your S1U2 device in the list of terminals.

  4. On the device detail, go to Customization.

  5. Scroll down to the Kiosk mode section.

  6. Scroll down to the Kiosk mode section and set:

    • Hide navigation bar - Enabled

    • App upon terminal start - select 'Ventrata'

    • Allowed apps in Kiosk Mode - select 'Ventrata'

    Press the pen icon next to each option to edit.

  7. Press Save at the bottom of the screen.

Create the Terminal in Ventrata

To use S1U2 payment terminal with the Ventrata terminal app, create a terminal entry for the device in the Ventrata dashboard.

  1. Go to Ticket Terminals > Terminals.

  2. If you use Destinations, select the destination for which you want to add the new terminal.

  3. Press the + New Terminal button.

  4. Enter ‘Name’.

    Make sure to enter a descriptive name so the device is easily recognised in the list.


  5. Enter the device’s serial number.

  6. Check or change the destination in which the terminal device will be used.

  7. Select an Adyen payment gateway.
