Why do fares change on redemption?

What are Fares

Fares are dynamic pricing rules that adjust the cost of a booking based on specific conditions. These conditions help optimise pricing based on demand, availability and booking behaviour.

Each fare is made up of one or more rules, and a fare is applied when at least one or all of the rules are met, depending on how it is configured:

  • Occupancy Forecast - how full the tour is expected to be (%)

  • Occupancy - how full the tour currently is (%)

  • Vacancies - number of remaining spots available on the tour

  • PAX - total number of tickets sold for the selected tour

  • Booking Size - number of tickets in the individual booking

  • Notice - time between booking date and travel date (in minutes, hours or days)

  • Duration - length of the tour (in minutes, hours or days)

What Causes Fares to Change

Fares may change during redemption if the booking no longer meets the conditions originally used to calculate the priceโ€”or if changes to the product configuration affect which fare applies.

Modifications in the following settings can trigger fare recalculation:

  • Start and End Date

    Adjusting the availability of the product, option or tour can trigger different fare rules.

    Starts On & End On

  • Booking Size / PAX

    Modifying the 'Booking Size' on the option (number of tickets per booking) or the 'PAX' on the unit (number of people per unit) can change which fare applies if fare rules are based on these values.

  • Duration and Duration Unit

    Changing the duration or unit (hours vs days) of the product or option can affect fares selection.

    Fares can be tied to specific sources (terminals, web checkout, OTA). Changing the 'Source' setting might trigger a different fare.
