How to Use Challenges

Learn how to set up and use challenges.

Challenges alert tour staff to check or verify specific conditions before allowing ticket redemption.

  • Check visitor ID for student discounts or age-limited attractions

  • Confirm eligibility for promotional coupons or partnership deals

Create Challenge

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Products > Challenges.

  2. Press the + New Challenge button.

  3. Enter a name for the challenge. This name will be displayed on the dialog window in the Ventrata terminal app.

  4. (Optional) Check the 'Match Tags' box if the challenge should only apply when tags match on a specific level:

    Matching tags ensures the challenge appears only when specific criteria are met.


  5. In the 'Message' field, enter a a short description explaining the purpose of the challenge (for example, 'Check student ID').

  6. Select whether the challenge should apply to the entire booking or each individual ticket.

  7. Optionally, blacklist any destinations, products or promotions that should not trigger the challenge.

    Alternatively, uncheck the 'Whitelist Destinations / Products / Promotions' boxes and list only items that should trigger in the challenge.


  8. Press the Create Challenge button.

Allow Challenges at the Location

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Locations.

  2. Choose the location where the challenge will be employed, or create a new one.

  3. In the Allowed Next Actions section of the location form, check the 'Approve Challenge' box.

  4. Press the Update Location button to save your changes.

Location Settings

  1. In the Ventrata dashboard, go to Ticket Terminals > Locations.

  2. Select the location where the challenge should be used (or create a new one).

  3. Choose the appropriate receipt print setting for the challenge type:

    • One Group Ticket – for booking-level challenges

    • Ticket per Person – for ticket-level challenges

  4. Optionally, for scan-only terminals, in the Allowed Next Actions section, check the box for Approve Challenge.

  5. Click Update Location to save your changes.

Challenge Flows

Tickets Sales

  • The seller selects a product that includes a challenge.

  • Once the order is set up and the seller reaches the Redemption page, a dialog prompts the challenge (the booking must be selected for redemption).

  • The seller verifies the required information (for example, ID) and presses the Approve button.

  • The sale continues to the Delivery Method page.

Scan by Seller

If a booking was not redeemed at the time of sale and remains in the Confirmed state, the seller can scan the ticket later to redeem it. The challenge dialog will still appear if applicable.

Ensure that receipt printing matches the level of the challenge:

  • Ticket-level challenges = Ticket per Person

  • Booking-level challenges = One Group Ticket
